Scoob! Review

While it doesn't feel quite like a Scooby-Doo movie, it has enough to justify its existence.

The story line started out really well, but sadly fell apart when they started to go into mythology. I did enjoy the fact that Dick Dastardly and his sidekick Muttley were chosen as the villains, since I grew up on the Wacky Races. I really wish that the entire gang would have had more screen time. What kept the story line going was its humor, and the friendship between Shaggy and Scooby, which has always been the best part of the franchise.

While I was initially concerned with the animation going into this movie, I really enjoyed what the animation looked like. This kind of animation is really starting to grow on me, and I am not bothered by it as I used to be when I was much younger.

The voice acting in this film was the best part about it. Frank Welker as usual shined as the voice of Scooby, and while I was initially concerned about Will Forte as Shaggy, I loved his voice performance also. The true standout for the voice actors, in my opinion, was Jason Isaacs as Dick Dastardly. He sounded just like he did from the Wacky Races tv show. It was also nice to hear Mark Wahlberg doing a voice, and he did a good job also. While the choices for Fred, Daphne, and Velma were perfect, they underused them way too much for me to judge them.

In terms of a potiential sequel, because it is Scooby-Doo, there is so much you can do with this series. What I would like to see, is a remake of one of the Where Are You? episodes. The one that I would like to see remade is, What a Night For a Knight. While it is my favorite episode of Where Are You?, I would like to see what kind of changes they could make to it. If a sequel is made, I want it to focus more on the Mystery Incorporated Gang, and less on other characters set in the same universe.

Overall, despite its flaws, Scoob! is a fun film for the entire family, and it will please longtime fans of the franchise.

Out of 4 stars I would give it...

3 out of 4 stars
