Onward has enough to stand on its own thanks to plenty of heart and well done humor.
The story line had a few good twists and turns, but ultimately was pretty predictable. The one thing that kept it going was its humor, and heart surounding its characters. It was one of the better story lines that Pixar has done, but not even close to being their best.
The animation was flawless. The designs of all of the characters were spot on, and I was not disappointed with their looks. Pixar has always been the best at animation, and this film proved my point.
The voice acting in this film was great as well. Tom Holland did a great job, while Chris Pratt did a spectacular job. It was also neat hearing Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Elaine from Seinfeld) coming back for another Pixar film, but I still prefer her as Princess Atta from A Bug's Life.
In terms of a potential sequel, there are plenty of ideas for them to do a sequel. If they were to make a sequel, I would hope that the story has a more original idea. But if they ultimately decide not to make a sequel, I am not going to be upset about it.
Overall, Pixar's newest film overcomes a predictable story line and produces a well made film for people of all ages due to its heart, voice acting, strong characterization, amazing animation, and well written humor.
Out of 4 stars I would give it...
3.5 out of 4 stars
