My Review of "The Lion King 2019"

The updated Lion King is not a winner.

The story line was way too similar to the original, and it lacked the heart of the original. Jon Favreau's direction in this was horrible in my opinion, as was his other live action Disney remake, The Jungle Book.

The characterization did nothing new, and the characters lacked depth and emotion. While Scar started out very strong, ultimately he fell apart as the movie went on, and I was not frightened of him one bit.

The acting was poor, save John Oliver as Zazu. The actors showed no emotion at all, and they were soulless, and almost looked like they were not enjoying themselves at all.

The musical numbers were dull as well. I cannot believe that they did not have "Be Prepared" or the Hula Song, the best songs in the original.

The visuals were very good I must admit. They did a good job making them look very real.

Overall, despite some great visuals, and a strong performance from John Oliver, The Lion King remake suffers from too many similarities to the original, poor characterization, dull musical numbers, soulless performances from the cast, and a poor direction, to make this a disappointing Disney film.

Out of 4 stars I would give it...

2 out of 4 stars
