Alien: Romulus: Review

A gripping and exciting film that brings the Alien franchise back to it's original glory.

The story line in this film was written so well. I loved how they managed to pace the film just right, and when it got going, they did not let their foot off the gas pedal. It had a much more interesting story line to it, than Prometheus and Covenant had, it was also a lot more suspenseful than those 2 also.

The acting in this movie was amazing! Cailee Spaeny managed to hold her own very well. While she didn't even come close to matching Sigourney Weaver's performance, she was still a very compelling character, and I loved that they did not make her a copy and paste of Ripley. Isabela Merced acted her butt off also. Of all the characters, you had a great reason for caring about her, something I haven't felt since Aliens. David Jonsson easily stole the show as Andy. I loved how he managed to play a charging Android, and a heartless Android with such ease. David's career should immediately take off after this role!

The action scenes in this film were done so well. I was immediately hooked right off the bat. That also did a great job at blending the action scenes with the horror elements of the movie. The visual effects looked amazing, and man did that Queen Xenomorph look ugly and slimy, but so well designed!

I loved the callbacks it had to the original Alien movie, and the Easter eggs it had that referenced Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. The film also had some nice little references to the video game Alien: Isolation, which I absolutely loved. That creature at the end of the movie was an amazing callback to the Prometheus creatures.

They have absolutely left the door open for a sequel. I would love it if they managed to bring back Michael Fassbender as David, and have him and Andy go at it. They could very easily tie up the Prometheus story line this way also. I want to see more of Rain and Andy also, since they were characters you genuinely felt sorry for. It would also be nice to see them conclude their story line, and then end the film right as Aliens is about to happen. Perfect way to end the series.

Out of 4 stars I would give it...
