Greenland: Review

A rare disaster film that features good special effects and a focused story line.

The story line in this film was very good and very realistic. I agreed with what one critic said about this film, it did remind me a lot of Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, but it a good way.

The acting in this film was stellar. Gerard Butler gave one of the best performances of his career. Morena Baccarin also gave a phenomenal performance. Roger Dale Floyd gave on of the best performances from a child actor that I have ever seen. The supporting actors in the film were well cast also.

The visual effects in this film were much better than I was expecting. The film better get a nomination for best visual effects at the Academy Awards next year. Musical score in the movie was outstanding as well. Just a well made movie overall.

Overall, Greenland is one of the rare disaster movies that actually works due to its realistic and well written story line, spectacular visual effects, outstanding performances from all of its cast, and a great musical score.

Soul: Review

Soul's themes, animation, musical score, characterization, and voice acting make up for a surprisingly week story line, and abrupt ending.

The story line had some great moments, but like I said above, I really felt like the ending was very abrupt, as we never found out what Soul number 22 did with her life. The characterization was very good however, and I loved all the different views on life and how each person gets their personality, this could have easily been a standalone sequel to Inside Out.

The music in this film was arguably the best. I loved all of the different instruments they used, and I am a fan of jazz music, and this made me love jazz even more.

The voice acting in the film was flawless as well. Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey were hilarious in this movie. Pixar has always been perfect when it comes to their casting choices, and this film continues to prove my point.

They do not need to do a sequel to this film, as their is nothing left to explore. That is one thing I was happy about when it came to the ending, it did not set up a potential sequel.

Overall, Soul has is a charming family friendly movie that has so much going for it, that it makes up for its flaws.

Wonder Woman 1984: Review

While the cast gives their all, the story line is slow and boring, and the themes are too familiar.

The story line was so boring. I knew what was going to happen as well, too cliché. I also hated how they treated Cheetah, as she is Wonder Woman's biggest and most well known villain. I did like how they treated Maxwell Lord, even if he was too familiar.

The acting was great as usual. When Chris Pine came back he definitely added a lot of charm that the first film possessed. Pedro Pascal gave the best performance in my opinion. I also liked Kristen Wiig as Cheetah, even if the writing for her was very bad.

With the third Wonder Woman, I hope they have a new villain that is pure evil, and has a lot of depth to him. They also need to have a good climax. Say what you want about him, but Zack Snyder is always good with his climaxes. Part of me wishes he was directing the third film, and not Patty Jenkins. And with Snyder, you get a lot of well acted scenes, and he is good with drama.

Overall, while the cast is game, and the visuals are stellar, Wonder Woman 1984 suffers from bad pacing, a poor story line, lackluster action scenes, cliché themes, a predictable ending, and a poor direction from Patty Jenkins, to make this one of the worst superhero movies of all time, and the 3rd worst film set in the DCEU.

Love and Monsters: Review

Quick review, I am very tired.

While predictable, Love and Monsters has plenty of emotion, excellent visuals, surprisingly well looking visual effects, well written humor and dialogue, and a strong performance from Dylan O'Brien to make it a fun film for the whole family.

Enola Holmes: Review

While it is nothing groundbreaking, Enola Holmes has plenty of charm and strong performances from its cast to make it a fun family movie.

The story line was solid, but I was very disappointed with the lack of a true mystery that the two Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr. had. It was overall solid, but I was confused as to what Enola's mother was doing, hopefully a sequel will help explain it.

The acting was spot on. While Millie Bobby Brown held her own very well, Henry Cavill gave the best performance. It was too bad that they underused him, hopefully a sequel will give him more screen time.

Netflix potentially has a new franchise, and if they were to do a sequel, I would love to see her tackle a bigger mystery with a lot more depth, and lots of surprising twists and turns.

Overall, Enola Holmes has plenty of charm, and strong performances from Henry Cavill and Millie Bobby Brown to help it overcome its flaws, and make it a fun film for the whole family.

Tenet: Review

While the musical score is on point, the visuals are top notch, the action scenes are stellar, and Robert Pattinson gives a very good performance, Tenet suffers from a confusing narrative, a rare poor direction by Christopher Nolan, and very bad casting, making this Nolan's worst film of his career, in my opinion.

Artemis Fowl: Review

Doing two reviews tonight, and I am very tired. So it will be a quick review.

Kenneth Branagh's Artemis Fowl is a fun and exciting film that exceeds all my expectations, and delivers on the hilarious humor, strong visual effects, well shot action scenes, great characterization, and strong performances from Josh Gad, Ferdia Shaw, and Lara McDonnell.

I really hope that we get a sequel of some kind with the same cast.

Mulan (2019): Review

Doing two reviews tonight, and I am very tired. So it will be a quick review.

While the cast, and musical score are game, the film lacks the heart and humor of the original animated film, and the action scenes are too unrealistic, the songs and characters which made the original so good are missing and that takes away a lot, and the new characters and their characterization stink in every way.

Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe: Review

The long awaited return of Phineas and Ferb was totally worth it.

The story line was very well done. I loved the interactions between Dr. Doofenshmirtz and the kids. The only problem I had with the story line, was the lack of interaction between Vanessa and Ferb. I was hoping for that so as to explain what made her fall in love with him.

The humor in this film was spectacular. I was dying of laughter so many times. I was so glad that the show's humor still felt the same.

The voice acting was very good as well. The cast certainly had not lost their touch, but I hope that Thomas Sangster (Ferb from the tv show) comes back if they make a third film, or if they ever make the theatrical film that they have had planned for so long.

The music in the series was great as well. The show did not lose its touch at all with the music, which was great.

Overall, despite one flaw, Phineas and Ferb's long awaited return was worth it, and this film was please longtime fans of the franchise.

Psych 2: Lassie Come Home: Review

 Quick review, too tired.

While the cast does excellent as usual, the emotion is very good as well, and it has some very funny moments, the film is a major disappointment compared to the first film due to its confusing narrative, and lack of a good mystery and payoff.
